Does anybody have any advice for a beginning clarinet player? I recently started trying to play clarinet and I was wondering if anybody had any good tips on how to practice well.

Register slurs help a lot, although I never practice them. Play a low F, then hit the register key untill it goes to high C, play low G then hit register to go to high D, ext.

Also scales, thrids, forths, ext.

And start slow on peices paying attention to details. Pratice hard parts a lot!!

Uh, yeah.

i also like to do that and i say to practice a piece that you think as hard and try to play it and ask for help from other clarinet players until you get and switch because that will help you get your fingers moving because i practice like that on my flute all the time

also finish off with something you really enjoy playing, even though it might not be something that needs to be practised, its good just to have fun while playing

My teacher says start slowly. Get it right. Pay attention to tonguing and slurring. Sometimes I go back to the beginning of the book and start again. What pieces did I skim over Ha Ha. Play them again, Sam! Get them right this time!

Lot's of good advice here. I can add to practise every day- at a specific time is best for most folks. A specific amount-half hour is good. The best times are the days you don't want to. You really feel good after that those. Be particular to learn all the technical stuff correctly. Nothing is more frustrating for a student that to have musical ideas you'd like to project but not have the technique to do it. Your instrument will find tons of ways to fight you. Try to make your clarinet your freind. Remember, we play a technical Monster.
