If I should choose another instrument to play, wich would be easiest to learn, the oboe or the saxophone?

You have to look at the pros and cons of each:

Oboe:
~Pros:
*Will feel very similiar as far as finger placement and air support are concerned.
*Will probably be playing basically the same parts as you did on clarinet, albeit higher.

~Cons:
*Oboe most likely won`t see any uses outside an orchestra or concert band.
*Will need to learn how to work with double reeds.
*The instrument is of a different key so it will be tough to pick up at first.

Saxophone:
~Pros:
*Similiar feel as far as reed playing goes.
*Will be the same key as clarinet, thus much easier to pick up (Tenor sax only.)
*Will see use in jazz or swing bands if you`re going for that.

~Cons:
*Fingering will feel different. Multiple register keys.
*Bigger reed may take getting used to.

Overall: I say learn Tenor Sax. It`s a great all around instrument and a smooth transition from clarinet. Hope I helped.

Isn`t there an clarinet in Eb? I think the alto clarinet is in the same key as the alto saxophone? I know for sure, anyhow there is clarinets in different keys due to the age of the instrument. During the "classical" period they built different clarinets for different keys.

yes, there is a clarinet in Eb, A, Bb (soprano). Then there`s bass, and I think alto, but I don`t think there`s a tenor.

Easiest instrument to go to is the Tenor Saxophone from clarinet. Simular but a little harder. It`s the most recommended 2nd instrument for clarinets.

I played the tenor the other day, I usually play the clarinet. I think it`s far easier to play the tenor.

definately learn the sax. the oboe has a 100% different feel, reed, key, and key placement. i learned sax for jazz band and i did the transition in less than a week. as far as which sax, id go for alto or tenor. all the saxes have the same fingerings. tenor is in the same key as the clarinet, and alto and bari are in Eb 9at least im pretty sure bari is in Eb) anyway, another reason to switch to sax is it has pretty much the same fingerings as clarinet. in that i mean, everything in the clarion register (third line C to above the staff C) is fingered the same, with the exception of C. i wouldn`t play soprano sax, it may be closer to the clarinet but it hardley has any parts in ant kind of band, and its a pain to tune and keep in tune.

phew sorry about that long post. hope i helped a little.

ps id go for tenor!! its so much fun

Go for tenor sax. Its relatively easy to pick up going from clarinet and its a real saxophone
