I`ve been looking at a LARGE upgrade from my Buffet B12 clarinet. I came across the CL2S clarinet at music123.com for $1,795. It seems like a good price expecially for a rosewood clarinet. http://www.music123.com/Item/?itemno=106490 Is anyone familiar with this clarinet? Anything I should be skeptical of? One thing I`m afraid of though is cracking of the wood. Are there certain precautions I can take so that the wood won`t crack? Also, how does a repaired crack look like? Do they still use large metal bands to seal them? Sorry for all the questions, I`m just extremley curious  Thanks in advance for the help!

In a nutshell- Patricola isn`t great.
Why do you think they are the only handmade clarinet makers that have prices (even without discounts) that can compete with the Big 4 (Leblanc, Selmer, Buffet, Yamaha) ?

I have no experience of Patriola clarinet.
If I were buying a brand new clarinet of $1800, I would buy a Buffet R13. Many professional clarinetist use that model. You can see it playing very well , producing beautiful sound by members of with well known bands and symphony orchestra.

Try every brand you can for yourself. Please don`t listen to the random ignorant poster saying "get a Buffet". Yes, lots of professionals play the R13- because it`s the standard, but at the top of the professional rankings people play a much wider variety of brands than the run of the mill "pro" players. Buffets are good, but the R13 is their "cash cow" model, so standards on them are very low compared to the other professional models since they have to serve such a big market and don`t have the time or money to really care about standards on the R13 line it appears. If going Buffet, I would suggest at least going for a Buffet Vintage maybe Prestige, depending on which bore you like- either R13 or RC Prestige. Don`t forget that a lot of pros decide to play other brands like Leblanc, Selmer, Yamaha, Rossi, Eaton, Wurlitzer, Howarth, Chadash and so on. You can find a Leblanc, Selmer or Yamaha for around the same price if you shop around, sometimes cheaper than the "comparable" Buffet.
