Mine is Sabine Meyer, Who`s yours?

Robert Marcellus? Benny Goodman? Artie Shaw? Gervase de Peyer? Richard Stoltzman? Buddy DeFranco? David Shifrin? Frank Cohen? Pete Fountain?

Larry Combs is probably my favorite clarinetist overall. In dixieland Pete Fountain is just awesome( although I am truly a concert clarinetist, I can appreciate talent in other areas). For concert clarinet I really like Guy Delpi( not sure of spelling & he`s a french clarinetist).

Yeah, Larry Combs isn`t too bad. I just really like Sabine Meyer`s famous dark German tone - could recognize it anywhere. Gervase de Peyer`s easy going soft tone is pretty contagious too. Guy Delpi? I don`t know, never heard of him.

I like Sabine- and i like dark clarinet, but I rather french clarinetists because they are usually more advanced technical players- the Oehler system is second to the Boehm for a reason- it is too big and clumsy and in appearance it definetly doesnt compare ( not that looks matter). Guy is a french clarinetist so thats why you probably dont recognize the name. If you want to hear him- just give me your AIM s/n and i can send it to you or something like that.

Benny Goodman is terrific only when he is playing jazz, though. Has anyone heard the recording of him playing Mozart`s Concerto? With all due respect to Mr. Goodman, that was the worst rendition of the piece I have ever heard coming from a professional musician.

ah yes joze kotar, great slovenian clarinetist. of every single clarinetist out there, i`d hafta say that his tone is the most similar to mine (although i try to aim for the sabine meyer tone).

Correction- Guy Deplus- I had only heard his name once , and it was from someone with a thick accent, so I didnt know. I just know he has an awesome sound.

I like Eddie a lot too, and I`m even ordering the clarinet he endorses- the Leblanc Concerto II because Leblanc is the best! I also have his new ligature and I will be getting his mouthpiece. I just prefer some clarinetists to him.....

I also like Gervase and Mitchell Lurie.....

For bright, open sounds, I like Tom Piercy`s sound alot, although I prefer dark clarinet tones. Bright Classical that is, because bright jazz will always belong to Pete! (Acker Bilk doesnt come close- eww!)

Bradley

Perfect practice makes near perfect!
