Sabine Meyer is amazing, but her recording of the mozart concerto is distasteful. The best clarinetists in the world are without a doubt Karl Leister, Micheal Arrignon, and Charles Neidich. In Jazz, it has to be Buddy Defranco and Eddie Daniels.

You know what, everyone will make fun of me because everyone likes him, and it is very unoriginal, but Benny all the way, i just love jazz so much that it is impossible not to like him.

I can`t help it---Reginald Kell is my favorite of all time. Also, Benny Goodman (my childhood clarinet idol), Kenny Davern, Chuck Hedges, Richard Stoltzman. There are so many truly great clarinetists, it all comes down to personal taste.

Hi!
A new Emi Records compilation of concerts of Weber was released recently! In this compilation you can listen the sound of Sabine Meyer! I love her sound. I love her higher notes and dark notes.

Artie Shaw was the greatest jazz clarinetist in my opion. I think Benny Goodman was truly great but Artie was the best. Check out some of his recordings, his upper range was spectacular.

I would definitely say Paul Meyer- his one Brahms chamber work that I heard is really exquisite, and Sabine meyer (last name coincidence?) also, because she`s the only one who recorded Stamitz 3rd concerto

My favorite clarinetist is Sabine Meyer and then Karl Leister, I would have to disagree with the french ussaully being more technicaly advanced, although the boehm system is easier and more convenient.

My favorite clarinetist is David Shifrin. So diverse, all he keeps on doing is getting better. Although I am a litle bias. He is my ex uncle. He still rules though.

I`m sorry to burst anyone`s bubble but Sabine Meyer is hands down the greatest clarinetist alive today. Call it my opinion if you want but no one surpasses her mastery and brilliant interpretation, her ability to coincide with an orchestra is untouched. I personally and whole heartedly believe any one who would disagree has not heard to full extent of Sabine`s abilities. Let me recommend that you buy her albums some of them are extremely exquisite, and her interpretation of the Stamitz concertos is the best there is and ever was.

I have to reply once more to the guy who thinks that German Clarinetist are not as technical as the French. Where have you been and who is your teacher? If anything it is the most opposite of what you said. The Germans are the best clarinetist there are, rivaled only by the AMERICAN clarinetist. Yes, my friend the French have lost there flair a long while ago, although let me say their sound is very captivating. But their technical ability is the very thing that keeps me from buying their albums.

Walter, why do you dislike the French so much? The French have a great legacy of talented clarinetist. You must not have heard the playing of Michel Arrignon, Guy Deplus, and Paul Meyer, among others. Todays French clarinetist easily rival those of America and Germany.

To Antonio and Walter and whoever else believes "the germans are more advanced technically than the french" I meant the french SCHOOL. This includes such big clarinetist factories as France, America, England, Italy etc. which all mostly play on french system clarinets and learn the french school of playing.
If you still want to argue that the German school is more advanced, then I suggest you go listen to Bonade (my old teacher`s teacher`s teacher and still the orchestral master)Marcellus his student, Mitchell Lurie, Walter Boeykens, Andrew Simon- all of these people who focus on technical flawlessness if you will. The Germans are wonderful clarinetists- and with the Berlin Phil. being my favourite orchestra, how could I not think that? I just think the german and austrian schools focus on technical issues as much- at least not from what I`ve heard from the german masters like Karl Leister, Dieter Klocker, Paul Meyer and so on (yes, I left out your beloved Sabine). They`re who I go for when I want dark powerful sounds, but when I want to hear technical french stuff like the Messager I`m gonna want someone like Boeykens playing it just because of his style. This is only my opinion, as are your overly kind thoughts about Sabine, so I don`t think anyone has to get into a fist fight yet.

Bradley
