I`ve recently moved and was playing a Selmer oboe at my old school and I now play a Yamaha. I liked the Selmer better, but does anyone have any recommendations for a type of oboe that works nicely? Are Buffet Oboes better?

Personally I think you need to find a place that has bunch of oboes that you can try out side by side and see which is for you.

Different oboes play very differently. Some are very picky with the reeds you use, others less so.

I listed out most of the major brands at the flute area. Though I left out Buffet, wasn`t intentional.

well i have to say i perfer the yamaha oboes over selmer anyday. but some of the best oboe brands people don`t even know about. Like chauvet, A.Robert and Barre. O and of course the king of them all the hiniker oboe in my opinion the best of them all. But if u are a beginner i would say the barrington 801, the Bulgheroni Student Model Oboe or the YAMAHA 241. if u are a middle advanced player Buffet Model 4051/4052 Oboes,Tiery E30 Graduate Oboe, Yamaha`s 441 models, or the best in this catagory howorths s55 in full grenadilla. and if u plan to make music a career than of course the Loree, Marigaux2001,901,Howorth s5or s5XL, Yamaha`s 841,831 and of course some of the best brands the chauvet bw series, Barre made by laubin, laubin, covey,a.robert, and kruel, fox, and the best of the best hiniker. hope this helps if u have and questions just email me at yaboilkd@aol.com.
