Hello,

My daughter has been renting a Selmer 1492FB for the past 4 months. Now I see on a local online private advertisment (Craigslist) an Oboe for about $800. (asking $800). The brand is "Kreul".

Is this a good brand?

I was originally waiting for a Yamaha YOB-241 or a YOB-244 to show up for sale but I have't seen one yet. Should I wait for a Yamaha YOB-241 or a YOB-244 to show up or should I purchase this Kreul oboe?

How does Kreul compare to Yamaha (in terms of quality and price)?

Thank you for any advice.

They are, imo, excellent instruments - German made of good materials & to the highest professional standards. Provided it hasn't been abused or there are major cracks in it it should be good for many more years.

Thanks very much contra448 for your helpful comment

Not sure if I will be buying this one at this time now - I ran into a little financial problem over the last two days but I will reconsider in a few months when I sort out a few issues thats holding me back from purchasing another instrument. I'll keep this in mind in case I see another Kreul brand oboe.

Thanks so much!

Happy New Year!
