dear chris,

i`ve got something to tell u.
SELMERS SUCK!!!!!!!
i don`t know about their clarinets
but as far as my experience goes
selmer oboes r among the worst.
ok, now for the oboe brand.....
i think tat u should try out fox or yamaha. their student models r quite good. other good brands include
loree, howarth, rigoutat, marigaux
but these r a bit expensive.....

Okay, I`m sorry, but I really don`t think it`s fair to say that Selmer oboes suck! My Selmer oboe (it`s plastic and a beginner`s model) has worked wonderfully for FOUR YEARS!!! and most people i`ve heard who have plastic selmer oboes say that theirs is good. so, don`t stereotype things like this...remember, depends on the player and yours could easily have been a lemon.
just try out some different oboes, and see which ones you like! best of luck!
Corinne

Hi there again.

Listen, drop me an email and I will send you the name of my repairman. He has a very nice range of used and new oboes, plus some very good reeds that you can get started with.

I am facing the same problem. I stopped playing the oboe when I went to college and now that I am graduated and have a little money of my own I want to start playing again. I was very excited to find all the oboes on ebay, but as I began reading the info on the website I am a little nervous about purchasing an oboe online. There is a Buffet Crampon Student Oboe BC 4011 Semi-Automatic for sale and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this brand of oboe. Thanks
