Hey fellow oboists!
My oboe is HORRIBLE. I am going to buy a new one. If anyone has an oboe in good condition for sale for a reasonable price please email me.
THanks!

Just some advice, dont be afraid to look at plastic oboes. Many people think that they are bad and shouldn`t be bought, but some like the Renard by fox are better than many wooden Oboes. So look around but look at all of the types

But when you talk about wooden Oboes sounding worse than plastic ones, then again made out of what type of wood. Some woods are better than others, but plastic intruments are on the bottom of the list and make crapy intruments (not just the Oboe).

Ebay makes me shiver, if you really know what you`re looking for ok. I`d recommend wood, they are usually better, but plastic is not as terrible as it may seem.

Ebay`s O.K., if somebody sells something that is a piece of junk then they get negative feedback which tells other people to look very closely at what you are buying :-)

Negative feedback aside, you`re still stuck with the piece of junk in most cases. Ebay is fine for most things, but most of the music world uses it as an outlet to sell the unplayble instruments. Buyer be very wary of an ebay instrument, I`ve seen a number of terrible ones bought on ebay.

You`ve seen a number of terrible ones bought on ebay, in person or on the website? Instruments that are broken always sell for less and usually say that it is in less than perfect condition and show whats wrong. What I usually see is for instance "Oboe for repair" or "Oboe needs work" when it comes to some cheap instruments for sale on ebay.

How much do you want to buy an oboe for say $300 only to turn around and spend that much to fix it, and in the end, a $600 would have been better because once an oboe cracks it`s never the same again, no matter how good of a repairman it is you have fix it. My recomendations for buying an instrument would be midwest musical imports (www.mmimports.com) or nora post (don`t remember her web page or phone number). Either way, just in my time spent looking not only have I seen broken instruments on ebay, I`ve also almost exclusively seen oboes made by companies that just don`t make decent oboes (i.e. linton and selmer). If you`re careful and know what you`re looking for, ebay might be ok, I`m just saying if you`re not sure go with a knowledgeable dealer.

Buying an oboe is a VERY meticulous process, first off try to avoid buying off ebay... although it may be good for getting somethings, i have seen way too many times somebody end up with a horrible instrument. If you must buy used, i would buy from Nora Post, she was a former oboist of the New York Philharmonic, and has nothing but a great repuation for selling GREAT oboes. She never sells an instrument unless it is in top shape, and does extensive research on different brands and reliablity of the products. Just call her and tell her the maximum price you can spend, and she will match you up right away with 3-4 oboe choices, and sends ALL 3-4 for you to try and decide. Her website is www.norapost.com Just find her number and call, she`ll take care of the rest!

Well I`m not quite sure about tat...my sch concert band provides us our instruments and the oboe i`m using is made out of wood.i think i`ll recommend a wood type becoz after all, oboes are classified under wood wind.So there`s no point buying plastic(no offense to anyone out there)..

eBay is great for someone looking for an oboe *if* they exactly what they`re looking for. And it also depends a lot on what level instrument you`re looking for. I`ve bought all my oboe`s on eBay and I`m very pleased with the results. I have an english system oboe I`d be willing to sell for $300 if anyone`s interested!!
