Hi, everyone! I am a brand new oboe player-wanna-be. I love the sound of the oboe, but unfortunately I don`t have a clue as to who is considered a great oboe player. Not even one!

If you don`t mind, please list your four or five top modern-day oboe players.

I know that traditionally the oboe has been used in "classical" orchestra works. Does anyone know of an oboe player(s) that plays more current works?

Thanks in advance!

Heliman

Alex Klein is the head oboist in the Chicago symphony orchestra.

Two good European players are Heinz Holliger and Francois Leleux

Tys, Borgue, Meyer, Shellemberger, Leleux, Holliger...

If you want to listen to some italian oboists` work let me know, we have very good players I like Francesco Di Rosa, very "deep" sound.

I suggest to listen also older musicians, for example Pierre Pierlot!

Someone uses oboe for jazz, a lot of people for soundtracks (Morricone etc)... try to search the web!

Hi, check out my website at: www.popoboe.com, and I have a cd with music by Evanescence, the American Idol hit songs, and more. I am finishing my next cd, entitled,"An Oboe Original", that will have pop style music for the oboe. I actually studied with John Mack Other fantastic modern players are my friends, Cindy Koledo DeAlmeida(Pittsburgh Symphony), and Nancy Ambrose King(University of Michigan, Prof.of Oboe) Also, one of my teachers, Jim Ryan (University of Louisiana) They all have cds.bgp
