I have a Linton 5K Resin Bassoon (not wood) and it is absolutely wonderful....

It rivals the sound of the pro with the the Schreiber next to me in orchestra and I`ve only been playing it for 1 1/2 years now...

And I got it off Ebay for $365 shipping included, what a deal....

I`ve heard good things about linton. I am just so reluctant to get one of `em because of their quick ageing and non-wooden bodies, neither of which I want.

Within a month I hope to own a used Moenning for 2000 CAN. (non-ebay)

Moennigs are even older than Linton, and they aren`t that good either, it`s about like buying a 15 year old Volvo.... BTW, that is an outrageous price to pay for a bassoon if you`re not sure about it...

Linton the company is still up and producing, and the fact that the body is plastic is a plus, you will never get a crack, and it will always perform the same no matter where you play it or what the humidity level is, something that you will have a problem with a wooden bassoon.......

Esteban, there is no such thing as a "C" bassoon like there are CC and BBb tubas, all bassoons play down to double BBb.

1) C basoon means it is in the pitch of C- concert pitch. For example F horns, such as the french horn are played 1 fifth below concert pitch when reading the `same notes.` C is normalconcert pitch).

2) I will know a lot more about the moennig, they are still in production (I think), although that will not apply as it will probably be quite old. My other choices are pretty much limited to a Schreiber at $1900 and a Fox Plastic at $2500, a little beyond my budget. I will get the chance to go and see the bassoons first and try them, befor buying, if I buy.

Kevin is only partially correct...

Yes, bassoons do play the actual note that is written, but the way Kevin phrased it, makes it seem like there are different types of bassoons, perhaps a CC Bassoon, a BBb Bassoon, etc.....

Wrong, there is only one type of bassoon, and the fact that they all play their written pitch is often skimmed over, and it is never referred to as having a CC bassoon....

There is no such thing as a CC bassoon.... It`s just plain old bassoon... Their are two other variations on the bassoon (the contrabassoon and the quart-fagott, sometimes called the tenoroon), but there is only one plain bassoon, and it is never referred to as a "CC Bassoon"....

Do away with that terminology, it only confuses people...

ONCE AGAIN (I`m only saying it this much because I`ve seen people talk about CC Bassoons so much), There is only one bassoon, and it is not the CC Bassoon, it`s just a plain bassoon.......

yes, there is only no CC bassoon, C is just reffering to concert pitch. I also should have said F instruments instead of F horns, htat is only indicatint their pitch.

There is just one, common, ordinary pitch for bassoon.
