Hi folx, I completed my music degree on bassoon in 1999 and I haven't really played much since then. I'd like to get back into it but I am not sure where to buy pre-shaped cane anymore. Last time I bought some online I spent $80 and it all turned out to be awful stuff. Anyone have a suggestion as to where to get some good stuff? I am in Vancouver, Canada, so if I could get some from Canada that might make it a bit cheaper but I don't mind spending more for good quality. I like a strong thick cane for making my reeds, something that needs a fair bit of working before it is playable.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Try aquanix reeds in ebay. you will find "3 truly handmade reeds" or something like that. They are a little expensive, but very good ! If you want only the cane, check www.koppreeds.com, or in google, search "bassoon cane"... there are a lot of houses that sell online, of course, choose french cane.

I know you're in Canada but I get all of my reed supplies from Forrests Music in California. They have good prices. Their website is www.forrestsmusic.com. Good luck and I hope I've helped
