I hae recently purchased a nice canadian maple Hunter B55 bassoon buti have never heard of the brand 
Does anyone know if it is a reliable brand or not?

I must say I have never heard of a Hunter brand. What exactly does it say on the top joint? How did you know it was Canadian maple? Interesting puzzle.........

Never ever heard of it XD. And I live in Canada (I figure if its Canadian Maple, it might be a Canadian Bassoon ?)

To the best of my knowledge the only bassoon maker in Canada is Benson Bell.
I would guess that Hunter, whoever they are, buy them in (from China?)& stamp their own name on.

agreed - only bassoon maker in canada is ben.
Hunter is the house brand of 8th street music
so if the brand name is really hunter... Its a very basic student instrument...
