I have a Fox Renard Artist Model 220. Serial #20614. It`s dark maple wood with a beautiful rich, dark tone. I bought it when I graduated from college in 1996. It`s in great condition and I also have a gold plated heckel bocal to go with. Would sell for $7000.

I was torn between them too. I wound up buying a Fox (renard acually, but it`s the same company.) I choose Fox because the company is in the United States; I don`t think you would want to ship your bassoon overseas to the factory should anything go wrong. Fox is also the worlds largest bassoon manufactuer. It`s not a father-son company, you know that you get a quality instrument. I personally think you should get renard 240 or one of the Fox models. Also, spending $7000 for a used renard 220 is way too much. You can buy them new for $5,329.00 at www.wwbw.com

Hi, I am in the middle of purchasing a Fox Renard 220 for about $3,800. It has a high D&E key new swabs, strap, and a new case. It is in excellent condition also I got to try it out for a bout 45 minutes. So you might want to look into one they are in the lower end of your price range and you should be able to find one for sale from a bassoon player on a campus near you, because most people buy them and when they get in college sell them to buy a higher end model. good luck
