Anyone ever heard of a piccolo tuba? I assume that it is pitched in the trumpet range. i'm really into oddball instruments just wanted to know if it was possible for me to get my hands on one of these.

actually i have two small diggory-doos. I can play a few notes on them. but other than that not too much. I'm more into brass instruments than stuff like that. And i dont really have many as a result of my low income. Piccolo tuba anyone? pocket euphonium? pocket-valve trombone? trumphonium?? lol.

Snaug,

I must give you credit for having a very inquisitive mind :0. I've never seen nor heard of a piccolo tuba, and I started playing trumpet/cornet in 1955. There is such a thing as a slide trumpet, otherwise known as a soprano trombone, but to my knowledge no one has ever had reason to miniaturize a tuba.

I think a "piccolo tuba", if one does exist, would be commonly known as Tenor Horn.

Considering that baritone/euphonium is also known as a "tenor tuba", it could be assumed that tenor horn could be classed as a "piccolo tuba", or a "soprano tuba".

Yes, they do actually exist, as I own one. I was a low brass major in college and acquired one at an estate sale. I'm very curious as to the value of this thing. If it's worth top dollar, I'll be looking to off-load it (starving musician, don't ya know). If it's not, then I'll keep it around a noodle with it from time to time and amuse myself. If I get around to it, I'll take some photos of it. Email me if you're curious. I can't find any on e-bay, so I have no idea what something like this is worth.

I dunno about the piccolo Tuba but here's a website of nothing but weird intruments that either didn't make it, ancient, or are homemade.

Accually some of the intruments are real, but very rare. Like the contrabass saxaphone in Eb.
