Hey everybody! I like it when trumpet players can just come out of nowhere and hit high notes. My dad thinks the exact opposite. I think it requires great skill to have the right muscle memory to do that. Most of you being trumpet players know what I mean I hope. What do you all think about spikes?

I've never heard of these being called spikes or kicks before. I've always heard them referred to as hits. What do you mean..."what do we think of them"?

if youre doing it right it hardly requires any skill at all. its just setup drills. ask your teacher about em. take a breath, put your tongue in and release. itl come out 200% of the time guarenteed. Not a difficult thing

Well, I'm not necessarily saying it is "difficult". I'm just saying that it takes some skill to just hit a high note "bop" after like 20 measure's rest. "Friend Like Me" by Wayne Bergeron has these in the background in around measure 25. The 2nd trumpet waits all those measures and then just BOP! right out of nowhere. When I say "What do you think of them?" It means, do you like them? hate them? etc. Because my dad says he doesn't think that the sound of high hits like that is appealing to the ear. I agree that you need to be good in middle ranges too but I do like accurate high notes.
