I really need advice on what mouth piece to get to consistently hold a note about the double-C. Anyone's advice is gratefully appreciated. Thanks and God Bless!

It really isn't the mouthpice, kiddo; it's the chops. Are you talking about the C above the standard scale? That really is only high C. If you're talking about an octave above that, true double C, that's a place it takes a while to build to.

You're a trumpet player, so you're an athlete. Think about the conditioning that quality athletes, successful athletes, go through. You have to do the same thing.

Short-cuts lead to problems with your chops - damage to the embouchure and surrounding muscles and a host of other problems.

Read some of the other threads that discuss range. There are lots of tips on how to develop range that is true, consistent and strong.

I definitely agree with "cantevergiveup". You shouldnt just go out and buy a mouthpiece just because it has high range. It still depends on how good your lips are. It takes a lot of work to hit high notes like that. A suggestion would be (if you really want some help with high notes) 1st, practice practice. If you want a mouthpiece to help, then you can get one with a shallower cup. It helps you around those high notes. But dont use it as your main piece. You will never build lips if the mouthpiece does all of the work. I have a Shilke 10a4a. I am still able to have a wonderful low range and have some extra help on those higher notes. I mainly use it for Jazz band though. It is very bright. If you are going to actually buy a mouthpiece, talk to a professional friend or just do some research. Dont ask the people selling it to you. They just want you to buy it. So basically it is all in the lips so it just takes time.

Well, I ask because I buy from a guy that I go to church with who plays trumpet. I went out and bought me 2 mouthpieces. both are Schilke and they are 14A4a and a regular 14. Any feedback on those mouth pieces. They're both shallow cup mouthpieces.
