i am a freshman from VA and i get this so much...

i love to play so much, i practice a lot, i look at trumpets on the internet just for fun to see whats there. and tonite a friend of mine makes fun of me for it
just now i tell her that im lookin at this forum and she says "get a f****** life outside of trumpets"
is she right to say that?
does it sound like i am overly obsessed?
or did she hav no right to say that?

It can be over-obsession, or it can be grueling passion. I have the same thing with my piano. I also have an obsession for everything that's msucially "pure". If I come across a version of music that it incorrect in any way, I simply won't buy it, even if I have been searching for ages for it. Another thing I can't break is my habit of listening to the background music in movies too much. I identify all of the pieces and the composers, much to everyone's pain and suffering. Bach would be proud, Mozart would laugh, and Beethoven wouldn't know what to think... Anyway, if it starts consuming your life to the point of losing relationships, whether friends or family, then you know you have gone too far. A little passion for something never hurt anybody, though.
P.S. - If you think that's strange, I'm so obsessed with music that I've identified what keys some everyday things play in. Our aquarium aerator is in B, the lawnmower is in E-flat, and the dryer is an unidentifiable B/B-flat.

hey, i agree with greitz , i think that was ur name. it is okay to love music, trust me lolz i found what note my school bell was ringing, in middle school, but if it goes as far as losing friends/relationships/consuming ur life, thats not good. and as for your friend, i tink she should stay out of your musical business, okay!, i have some friends who just roll their eyes at the mention of music. but you just have to deal with it. but i dont really like that your friend is cussing at you for it, thaats not right. you should stand up to her. say? what grade are you in? not highschool i hope, because in highschool or college, whereever u are, you WILL come across people who LOVE and care about music as much as you. trust me ^^. my band director is one of those "freaks" "nerds" "geeks" you know what! just say "Yup! Im a bandgeek and proud of it! You got a problem with that? too bad, because that is who i am and if you cant except that..." that is for you to finish. let me tell you, i am an official bandgeek. serious. BG international lolz small gruop but everyones welcome. BGU bandgeeksunited! there is even an e-mail with it lolz. you are who you are, be proud of yourself but dun go overbiard okay? ^^

Yeah I agree with Grieg and Yui, I mean if it actually interfer's in your daily living and well-being it's becoming to the point where it's a little dangerous. But what you do is basically what I do sometimes, but I do the same thing for softball and anime too so... yeah lol. What I'm trying to say you just have a passion for it and that's good lol if I could count the people I know that do the same thing so don't worry about it, it's not over obsessed. Ha oh by the way I did the same thing with the bell! And I started to mark time by accident when I was walking <_<... just don't tell anyone I know lol ^__^

I find myself walking in time with any and every song that plays -- its really embarassing. I try not to, so I just think to myself: Triplets, come on now, triplets!.....  !

Not over obsessed! haha, I thought the same about myself for a while...I was just on Ebay just to look at trumpets for no reason other than to just look for fun...trumpets are good!
