Wynton Marsalis

There have been so many greats, and there are still many to come. Legit players and Jazz boffs have all paved the way. A little like any World Record. You cannot forget the competition that drove each to get better, and the influence on tone, range, style and also Horn designs. Where would we be without Vincent Bach, Selmer, Holton, Olds etc. etc (??).

Today, I also go for James Morrison. I saw him live in 1983, and have followed him ever since. He was intro`d as a Jazz Pianist at one gig, and took on the Trombone,Trumpet and piano at a 4 band line up, and is a gifted muso. He was lecturing at the Sydney Conservatory before he was wearing long pants. Man his legit work is great, his Jazz is wild. He played with MF in Oz when MF toured, and Winton M has also had some heat from the man. But in the end, tomorrow there well may be someone else there, to follow.

Have you ever heard of a guy by the name of Maynard Ferguson? Man, this guy is awesome. No one can go higher; and when he wants he has an awesome tone. You should listen to him sometime!

Ever heard of Martin Winter? Now he is awesome! His tone is just perfect and control is phenominal!

There are many gifted trumpet players in the world today. To single out one man as THE BEST or THE GREATEST is, in my humble opinion, simply IMPOSSIBLE. Many of today`s so-called great players really are only "great" within certain "specialties" they have created for themselves. To be a really great player I think you have to be very versatile. Therefore, I would probably lean toward Wynton Marsalis. But, I still don`t like the idea of trying to name one person as THE GREATEST TRUMPET PLAYER TODAY. Also, comparing the way that Maynard plays now with somone much younger like Arturo is just not fair. In his day MF was nothing less than a PHENOMENON!

Maynard ferguson is known for playing high and that is what he does a lot but he is also a really great trumpet player i had the pleasure of opening for him at a concert and i even got to play a little bit with him. he is awesome. My favorite trumpet player is probably wayne bergeron he is very awesome. al hirt is really good. if you want to hear really good trumpet players go to trumpetstuff.com listen to alen vizuti, rafael mendez motion perpetuom, and al hirt carnival of venice. you will also find lots more great trumpet players

I personaly think Wyton Marsalis, he is a great all around player, but has anyone heard Chris Botti, he has a really good melodic flow.

I think that arturo sandoval is the best trumpet player now. He has an outstanding variation pf styles and lots of technique, not to mention his extraordinary range.
