Well I started played in the 5th grade and I am currently in the 10th grade. I just got my braces off and they have been on since the 5th grade. I need some help. My teacher told me the way I am putting the mouthpiece to my mouth is wrong. (I suck oh well) I position it below my top lip and he said it should be above the bottom lip.

Can anyone help?

I have a Bach and I am using a 3c (Is that good?)

Any suggestions?

I have a bach strad. (or however u spell it)

And as most players I have a problem with holding the instrument up. Any suggestions?

So pretty much I should re-position and learn a totally different way.

I also have a 1c and a 7c, should i start over learning how to play with that or use the 3c and just sound like crap for a month or two learning how to play like that?

That happened to me! Started playing on braces, then got them off 4 years later...couldn`t play above a middle D for two weeks! I still position the mouthpiece on my top lip(which is wrong) but I suppose since it`s already callused from the braces it won`t swell. Works for me. I wouldn`t suggest changing mouthpieces unless you really really want to. Just keep playing at it, and your range will come eventually come back.

i had a lot of problems with holding my trumpet. After taking lessons for 2 years i finally have it down pretty well. Ok first your left hand. your pointer finger and middle finger should be above the third valve tuning slide. your middle finger through the ring. Your ring finger and pinky finger should be under the slide. next your thumb should be in the saddle of the first valve slide. Next your right hand. Your thumb should be "hooked" into the space between the first and second valve. But not too hard. your fingers should be rested on the valves mostly on the tips. You pinky should be resting on top on the hook thing, this will alow you to move you middle and ring finger more quickly. Next you posture. Sit up straight with your back slightly arched back. your shoulders should be back. Your elbows should be up so they arn`t touching your body. Your neck should not reach out to play high notes. Make sure you always sit striat. if you slouch you limit your amount of air. It takes along time to get used. I`ve heard it takes about 21 day to break abad habit. So when ever you play alwasy be aware of what you r doing until you have it down. It might be uncomfortable at first believe me i know but i pays off in the long run. Good Luck. I also recomend getting a private teacher if you don`t have one already it helped me a lot. i went from being in the lowest band in my school to being 2nd chir in the highest band. Also practice! my private teacher always say "PERFECT PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT" because if you practice incorectly it will mess u up.
In order to get better u have to practice things correctly. Good luck!

for your mouth your teeth should line up. If you have an over bite (like me) u have to slightly push you chin forward. your muscles should be kind of tight pulling your face into a frowning looking position. The corners of your mouth should be down but pushing forward. no mater what mouth piece you use your ambchure should be formed like this.

if your mouth piece is too high on you r lips no matter if you have a calus or not your lips won`t be able to vibrate correctly. It will work for a while but the blood will be pinched off so after a short time your lips will become stiff or sore. If its too far on your bottom lip then there won`t be enough top lip in it to vibrate and get a full nice tone.

That realy isn`t true! My friend, amasingly, has played like that since the 5th grade (He`s in 8th), and he`s one of the best trumpet players in our grades(7th and 8th).
