First-give your horn a bath. I mean a good one- run a little bit of dawn dishwashing soap throught it(the blue stuff). It will cut through all of the grease. Try not to eat anything that may have sugar or grease in it before you play. It`s also a good idea to take a big swig of water before you start. My horn did that and my band director told me years ago to concentrate on what I was eating. It helped and I noticed that it wasn`t happening any more. Hope this helps!

i have tried pouring a cup of warm water, w/ a little dish soap through the bell. then rinsing it, and drying. I thought about putting it in the tub, but i wasnt sure, if it would be a good idea. u think??? It can be the food/drinks, lol. Thanx for the advice!!

I don`t think that food/drinks play a big rall in this.

It`s normal for your valves to turn greenish because of saliva....

Best thing is to just regularly wash your horn.

In response to the bath question:

Giving your trumpet a bath is an excellent idea. My only advice, since I have had a friend in the past who kinda slipped up on this, is make sure it`s nothing more than luke warm water. if you place your trumpet in a hot bath, you run the risk of having your trumpet fall to pieces-literally. The joints will start to weaken and then things will fall apart. Even if they don`t actually fall apart, it will be detrimental to the structure of your horn.
But I find the bath is an excellent way to clean the horn.
