I`m a bassist and pianist and would like to expand my horizens to the wonderful world of wind instruments, to put it vaugely. After borrowing a horn from my school and wanting to get one of my own, I`m wondering which brand I should go for. Because my pockets aren`t too deep and it`s only a hobby, Yamaha might be out of my range. But what opinions do people have about BandNow, Amati, Blessing, and Jupiter? Thanks a bunch.

I too am a bass player, been playing trumpo for just over a year now. My trumpet is an old Blessing about 50 years old. It came to me via an attic and a pawn shop in New York. Sometimes I have problems getting it to sound good, but every time my teacher plays it, it`s as sweet as a bell - the sound is gorgeous.It`s worth about 50 dollars or so.

So my advice would be to buy an inexpensive horn that sounds good when a professional plays it. Then learn what has to be done in order for you to produce that sound.

I`d say try to get an Olds Ambassador over ebay, they are cheap and they are solid student model and sound pretty good. Of course, they have age but those form the 50-60 are good horn and will last long.

i would say a conn or if you want i will sell u a pocket trumpet for 200 dollars. i like it but i need money for a flugelhorn. it`s in nice condition and has good tone. good for a beginner. also if u don`t want the pocket trumpet look for a getzen 300s
