wow. don`t come to forums like this for answers.
High notes:
keep your regular mouthpiece.
keep the corners of your lips firm
keep a small apature
raise your toung level ( see the Irons Lip slur book)
don`t shove the horn in your face
get private lessons with a good teacher and never come to a site like this for answers. More than 90% was bull!

I agree with Steven, Holy S*** some of u guys really need help playing... Stick to the same mouthpiece and strengthen ur lips. Ive seen people go to like 11 1/2 mouthpeices to play higer, all that does is destroy the sound

Playing lots of low notes with help one play higher, I agree. AMISHER? and you say your a music director? You might want to check that out and correct it to embouchure, lol. Pressing the trumpet on your face isnt going to help much but give you a sore and bad embouchure in the end. Playing high notes comes with time and how you practice. You can`t just start off trying to hit them you must play low to high. It actuality, there should be no pressure while playing...I have yet to conquer this. Something I heard that holding the trumpet with your arms and just placing the mouthpiece on your lips(no pressure) will help with who knows what. Does anyone agree that they`ve heard this also??

what you are referring to is what i`ve heard called the no hands method. i heard it from one of maynard fergusons trumpet players (carl fischer) when i had a lesson with him. that is supposed to keep you from pushing on your face and while you do it you are supposed to do lip slurs so that you get used to the feel of having no pressure on the lips. i haven`t had use for it yet but i hear that it works well

I`m-a-sure it is spelled Embouchure :-)    14:58 on Sunday, August 7, 2005

playing high on big mouthpieces    16:15 on Monday, August 15, 2005

You can, in fact, play high notes on a big mouthpiece. I play on a Bach 1B, which is almost the largest Bach made. I can play up to "E" above triple "C".

Also, playing on a large mouthpiece does not necessarily give you worse tone. The reason it does sometimes is the player isn`t used to putting that much air in the mouthpiece, and they are trying to "squeeze" out the notes, and that doesn`t work with a large mouthpiece or large bore horn.

The fingering chart for notes above High C is basically the same as the octave below it. D is first valve, D# is second valve, E is open, etc. There are more alternate fingerings in that octave.

Yea Playing high notes is not that difficult...you have to practice every day for at least 45 -60 minuntes plus what you do at school...All u need to do is have a very fast air stream....keep your lips tight..and ur corners tight..... i sorta put my top lip a lil more over the bottom to play and my bottom lip is over my bottom teeth..im in 10th grade and i can play an e above the staff...and its all from practice...you can not play high if u can`t master the low notes..if u can play low u can play high
