would you agree with the fact that brass is harder to play but woodwinds are more competitive thus have harder music?
whats your opinion?

brass came really natural to me. i'm a born lip buzzer. but reeds and flute-like instruments... can't play to save my life. i think it really depends on the person.

I absolutely would disagree with that analysis. There is no instrument that is definitively harder to play than any other. While individual people may find one instrument (or group of instruments) easier than another, the precise opposite may be true for another. To play anything well requires a great deal of skill, though each instrument has its own particular difficulties. In any case, your analysis laps over to the personalities of players, rather than sticking purely to the difficulty of a given instrument by describing woodwind players as "more competitive." In short, I consider that idea or any other that fits this formula: "______ is harder to play than _____," as extremely unsound.

no way.
woodwind parts are hard because they have crazy fast runs, trills, things that cause your fingers to get tangled, not just because they're competitive. and while looking at two peices of music side by side may lead to the idea that woodwind parts are harder, the parts are suited to the instrument, and challenging peices of music will be challenging for most instruments, if not in the same way.
the only times i think it's safe to make a comparison between which instruments are harder is with closely related instruments- such as, "oh, piccolo is harder than flute" or "Eb Clarinet is harder than Bb." (note: i'm not saying either of those are true, i don't play them, but they're more reasonable instruments to compare than, say, a trombone and a saxophone. and even those can vary by person.

however, i will say that strings are GENERALLY harder than brass or woodwind, because there's so much more you have watch out for on strings. eg. tuning is completely up to the player, it doesn't matter if it's 'warm', you can play out of tune at anytime. there are many, many, many, many, many different techniques to learn, some taking ten years or so to master. then there's all the strings and positions, then there's the incredible dynamic and emotion range, which really takes years to control well.
yes i know this is a discussion about woodwind and brass..... carry on.
