Someone poasted a concern awhile ago about constantly getting cold sores when they played their trombone.
Well for anyone who gets cold sores or mouth sores often here is some helpful information from my doctor freind.
If the sores are on your lip itself see a doctor you may need medicine to keep it in check.
If the sores are on the soft tissue inside the lip and/or cheek facing the teeth the you can help keep them at bay with excellent dental care. Brush and floss everyday, at least twice. Yarn type floss is prefered. Also try and use a peroxide based mouthwash. This will help prevent the sores and help them heal sooner when you do get them. And talk to your dentist about these type sores.
See your physician about outside sores and your dentist about inside sores. She or he may have more helpful advice.
I think i have one on the outside of my mouth, when I pick at it, it is REALLY painful, so I might want to get it checked. I don't know, it might jst be a really sensitive pimple.
Thanks for the advice/info!
i didnt know misaligned teeth could too; i was fine up until my parents had the audacity to force me into letting the dentist shove a few yards of barbed wire onto my teeth!
ugg, i have like these cuts and stuff in my mouth by the front of my teeth cuz of braces and oboe playing... its just a sacrifice i have to make for a bea-utiful smile and oboe:D
If you are wearing braces you just about have to have water pick device or something like the oral-B electric toothbrush. Something to really really clean by pushing water through all the crevices.
My doctor freind was really high on the peroxide based mouthwash. She said that was the thing that saved her when she had braces.
I have read some stuff that says you shouldn't use it everyday because it kills too much of the good bacteria, and then you can get something like black tongue. Other sources suggest it daily in a low 3% solution. DO NOT USE STRAIGHT PEROXIDE - until you verify it is 3% or less. You can use the peroxide straight if it is 3%, and most stores sell it as that, but there are higher percentage peroxide out there for industrial use - don't use them. Just a capful will do.
Here is a link with some interesting information on diet. I have found recently a couple of freinds who never relaized they were alergic to glutten. Since limiting their gluten intake they feel better than they have in many many years.
Ouch! Recurrent Apthous Ulcers are painful. Eat lots of yogurt. Avoid strawberries, pineapple, fresh tomatoes and citrus, as well as nuts. There is a product called
Debacterol which works pretty well. It's a cotton swab with sulferic acid and smelly sufonated phenols that basically cauterizes the ulcer, but it does help.
