there is no such question whats the hardest instrument to learn, its a stupid question, its about peoples opinions and not facts and it will lead all to arguments, which i see ppl are starting.
for me if you ask me, i play the basson, oboe, a bit of french horn and baritone...
basson- easy to pick up, only problem is the keys, doesnt look hard, jsut because it big!
Oboe- hard hard it is... well done who have made it... i was squeeking so much in the first year untill i got to the nromal sound...
french horn- i stopped after one year. its too hard, the biggest challenge for the musician, loads of talent, air, strong lips, firm position and loads of other thigns are needed. i gived up
baritone- fairly easy... maybe a bit bit easier than the basson, but they are both easy to pick up.

For me, it`s any instrument requiring manual dexterity in the fingers of the left hand, of which I have very little .

Hey I have played most of the stringed instruments,( Banjo, Guitar, Fiddle, Mandolin, and the Bass) if i ranked them hardest to master to the least it would be as follows; Fiddle, Banjo, Guitar, Madolin, and then Bass. The Piano was pretty easy, I`d have to stick it in between banjo and guitar, as I am having a harder time with the Banjo than I did the piano, and i was playing beethoven!

I play all brass instruments and would rank the hardest instruments as:
1.Oboe
2.classical guitar
3.tuba
4.french horn
5.bassoon
I played french horn for a year and didn`t find it very hard but this isn`t to say that it`s easy.

Mastering Lead guitar has to be one of the hardest, some of you people go on and put guitar as easier instruments to play. Bullsxxt!! - If your strumming away like a tit in a trance then that is easy to pick up!

Playing lead guitar different ball game!!... end of!!

I play both the piano and the violin and I actually find that the violin was harder to get the hang of... b/c every little move produces a completely different sound, but as soon as you get the hang of it, it was fine. I found the piano was more difficult to get the hang of, b/c you need to read two lines as once and move your hands all over the place...

i play basson clarinet, bassclarinet, contra alto clarinet, and violin mainly. Among other instruments that i own and am learning. I have to say the hardest of those instruments is the violin. I also think bassoon is really hard. The clarinet is hard because of the tone you want to get on it. It is hard to achieve, that "perfect" tone on clarinet. The hardest instrument I think is the French Horn, but I`m not sure, because i dont play it. i think that the saxophone is really easy.

I think that the French Horn is the hardest instrument to play, because the notes are so close together. But I think that the Flute is hard to get started on because it takes awhile to get the embouchure right.

I can play or have played many instruments and have picked up on them very easily, other people it takes a very long time to learn how to play one instrument. It depends on how devoted you are, and how much you want to learn to play...That`s just my opinion.

I play both the piano and violin. And for me they where both preety easy. I am very good on both so im not just some kid blowin smoke. I would say, from both trying and talking, that the harp is the hardest instrument. Not many people can master the harp!

huh... if you say the flute is easy, you probably have a horrible tone. if you say gutitar is easy, you probably can`t read music. if you say the piano is easy, you probably play with only your index fingers. if you say the violin is easy you probably squeak like crazy and make people want to kill themsevles when they hear you. if you say the trumpet is easy, you probably can`t hit the second octave. etc. need i say more.

an instrument takes forever to master. they are all hard.

Well said, Ric. I`ve got one for the saxophone, too. If you think the sax is easy, then you`re probably still in junior high (middle school).
