a doug elliot XT L103 (equivalent to between a bach 3 and 4) with a G cup and 8 shank for large tenors (with an additional special shank just for my 88H)..
same rim, but with a C cup and a 3 shank for my small tenors.

Yes, it is true that a U cup will give a darker, more round tone. The V cup, on the other hand, will usually give more responsiveness and a more cutting tone, which is better for jazz.

Lebanese Bass Bone, a 1.5G to 1G is a HUGE jump. You`ll feel like you`ve lost a lung and a fourth off of your high range. You should try a 1.25G first, as it will be a much easier switch.

mine is a 5g* (* means custom from manufacturer) Marcinkowitz (sure that is spelled wrong)
Basically its cup is the same diameter as a bach5 (less than 1 milimeter larger) but it has a narrow throat. Great for jazz LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. For symphonic it works great too great dark sound.
