I`m going into the 8th grade this year and I took up trombone playing last summer so I could be in the jazz band at our school. (I`m originally a clarinet player). It`s been about 1 1/2 months since I actively played in school and now I`ve lost my range, tone, and ability to use air well. (By the air part I mean that before I could go through about 8 measures at about a mezzoforte, but now I can`t even go 4 measures at a mezzoforte)

Please help! I`m working on the circle of fifths and some old jazz music that I have but i still need help!

Practice. Thats why you shouldn`t stop practicing. I practice almost every day.

One thing I do when I find that practicing is becomeing a bit monotinous is to shorting the amount of time I practice, but increase the number of times i practice a day. For instance, I may only play 45 minutes each time I practice, but I will practice 4 or 5 times a day. Also, try setting aside one day a week to playing what you want to play. ie sunday is my jazz day, that is all I play on sundays. Have fun playing that is what is all about. If you want more things I`ve found work for me please e-mail me.

Thank you all sooo much, but it turns out as of now, they`ve cancelled jazz band at the school ANYWAYS because its not a class like it was last year. It really sucks because our director really wants to do it, but he`s not sure if theres going to be time, funding, etc. Oh well, at least I`ll be ready if there is one!
