Hi everyone.

I am a tbone-player from the netherlands and I play a yamaha tenor slide trombone.

But for fun I also have an old Antoine Courtois valve trombone and recently I purchased an old Antoine Courtois slide (coulisse) that fits the bell section of my valve trombone perfectly.

I would like to `repaint` the valve trombone + extra slide-section. Does anyone have experience with this. I don`t wanna make it laquer of sliver plated. I want to choose my own colours. Is it possible to `paint` your trombone ? Will it affect the quality of the sound ? Should I sandpaper the whole trombone or can I just paint over the whole thing. Please advize

cheers,

Arjan

You can "paint" a trumbone its brass. The way u want it is that u have
about $1000 dollars to blow then have it refinished in different sections
with different metal finnishes. My trumbone has a lackerd metal finish. So
if I wanted to get it refinished it would be cheaper to buy a new trumbone,
ya get my catch. So if you want to do what you want to do you gotta have a
lot of dough to blow.

If you really don`t care about it that much, you can paint the slide section and it won`t make that big of a difference, just do it carefully, and don`t do the bell section, that will greatly effect the sound.

I had a friend in college that had an old beater trombone that he would use in his ska band. He painted the slide section red and white, like a candy cane. It looked really cool, and it really didn`t effect the sound much at all, since he only painted the slide section.

don`t do normal paint that you would jhust buy at a hardware store. it will end up looking like crap becuase it won`t stick to the original laquer and probably not even the sanded metal. it will just drip down the bone. but i don`t know much about altering tbones just playing them all i really know is normal paint wont work on metal or laquer.
