I use slide-o-mix but I've heard alot of other trombonist say that it deteriorates your slide faster than slide cream. So is trombotine any good?

I have been using (mostly) trombotine for over 40 years. During that time, I have tried most slide treatments. For me, trombotine, thus far, works best. I first thoroughly swab out the outer slide and wipe off the inner slide. Then I apply a very small amount of trombotine to each inner and rub it in until you can no longer see it on the slide. At that point, I work each inner into its corresponding outer. Then I apply 1 drop from the small bottle of Slide-o-Mix on each stocking and again work into the outer slide. A spritz of water finishes the job.

Really, it depends on the player. I have one friend who swears by trombontine and another who hates it.
i have tried and have found that SOM works best for me.
