Hi! I'm a newbie here. I just wanted to ask for advice...
I'm 13 yrs old and I'm planning to take violin lessons but I think I may be too late. I was not able to take violin lessons when I was younger because we had some financial problems and so now that we're ok, I want to learn how to play the violin. Do you think I still should take up violin or should I just look for an easier instrument to play?
Why do you want to play the violin?
--It's because I'm drawn to the music that it plays and I get really affected (in a positive way of course) when I hear the music of a violin.
What is it about the violin that you like?
--The music it makes
Why do you like music?
--It's an outlet of emotions for the soul :D
What music do you like?
--anything as long as it makes me feel better
Can you sing?
--Yes, I guess...
Do you like to sing?
--Yes. I'm part of a choir, so I guess I like to sing for the Lord :D
Do you want a career in music?
--Not really (when it comes to putting it as a main focus of my future career)
If yes, then why?
If no, then what do you like about performing music?
--I like performing music to make other people happy
There is never a time when it is too late to begin learning. My violin teacher has students who are five years old and students who are fifty years old, and they all love it. Sure, it might be more difficult to learn than it was when you were younger, but if you work hard, then it shouldn't be impossible. Just remember that the first year (at least for me) is the most difficult time in your music career. My mother compared it to "cats scratching a chalkboard" when I began, and since then I've gotten ones at festival. It's a lot of fun. Good luck, and enjoy.
If you start now its already too late, you will brake everybodys ears if you start playing. You"ll sink and suck so I recommend you that you look for another instrument, a easier one.
And I'm sure you've gotten enough advice at this point to know enough to not listen to ftgrl. Everyone sounds like a dying cat at first; the trick is to work at it until the neighbors stop complaining. Good luck!
