Hi all,
Does anyone know any good "old-time" songs (you know, American folk - fiddle and banjo stuff) that are purely instrumental. I love that sort of music. Don't you?

Well, Ashokan Farewell sounds like an old timey song, but it isn't. It was used for a Civil War segment on PBS or something, but it's a VERY nice piece to play.

I love Ashokan Farewell. The youth orchestra played it at one of the concerts. It's very sad, but really beautiful.
I'm not sure if it has words or not, but I play "Old Black Joe" on the piano. It's pretty nice.

There are a lot of web sites with old time fiddle tunes. We link to many from our page: http://www.folkfiddle.com Go to the "LINKS" page.
Old time fiddle tunes are a lot of fun to play. I keep working to try to get that distinctive bow pattern.
Enjoy your music!

Hi!
I have problem finding songs like that too, espesialy ones I like. My best stratagy it usefell to get CD's from the library, then if they have a song I like on them, to just do a general search on the internet for them. My Favorite artists are Natalie MacMaster and Leahy. And the Cheiftains.

Ashokan Farewell is pretty easy and really nice sounding. But if you want folk music, I used to have a book of it but forgot what it's called =(
