If somebody could PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me find some music played in Auschwitz... A violin buddy and I are looking to play some music for a Holocause project. Any help in the right direction would earn my undying gratitude!!!

Any hint about composer, music types, music piece names... Any help would be great! I don't care what instrument it's for, I can transpose it to fit our needs.

Richard Wager, I think. Don't quote me thought but I'm pretty sure I heard they played Wagner's music at the death camps. Good luck on your project, hope this isn't too late!

I don't think you're going to find the name of any particular piece played there. The way I see it is that people in death camps had all they could do to hang on to their clothes, nobody would have had a violin.
But probably the kind of music they would have played would be jewish pieces, traditional melodies of some sort. I would suggest trying to get the music from the movie Shindler's List. Good luck with it all!

Uuuhm yes, asctually there WAS an orchestra at Auschwitz. In fact, there were 6! The womens' orchestra had 10 violins, a flute, several accordians, several guitars and mandolins, a double bass, cello, and percussion.

I wouln't really recommend Richard Wagner as music for a Holocaust project. Depends of course on your political attitude. Regardless the undoubted artistic value of his musik, Richard Wagner is also known as big antisemit (not unusual during this time, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Wagner#Antisemitism) and the Nazis made use of this later.

Depending on your instruments, you might want to have a look into the Jewish Klezmer music. There are unfortunately no free sheets available here, but you can google it. It's great fun to play and sounds awesome.
