I wish you all a Merry Christmas.
My husband bought me a nice violin for birthday and I can't wait to learn how to use it. Violins are my favorite instruments but I have NO idea whatsoever how to play one. I don't even know how to hold the instrument.
I am looking for a DVD class that has the basics in a very detailed way.
I've come across many, but it seems the best so far for people whose comments I read is Mrs Seidel's http://www.videoviolinlessons.com/
Does anyone know anything about this instructor on DVD and if anyone knows a good and detailed DVD class I could take, I'd appreciate the help. I love violins but i have no idea how to play one (I know I said that already. I'm just emphasizing on the fact I just DON'T know how to play )
Thank you for your reply. Last night I was reading some reviews and I run into many people who think the same way you do. I'm looking into taking some classes here http://www.eliasonmusic.com/index.html
i suggest a real teacher too, it will make all the difference in that you won't sound like an alleycat. even if it is just to get the basics going you can get away with a half hour one on one lesson a week. maybe longer when you start. it depends on if you are playing for fun or want to join a musical group and how fast you learn.
have a very good christmas and good luck. the violin is such a great instrument to play!
You made me laugh with the alleycat sound of the violin.
Thanks for your advice. I am thinking about taking about an hour class every week. I wanted to try to teach myself with the help of a DVD but the comments I've read say what you said. I don't want to play for any group or become professional. I just want to play for myself and make my husband proud (he is a musician), and I want to learn how to play all of the Catholic songs I can find.
I have Mrs. Seidel's book and it's great for the raw beginner. I've looked at her website and while it looks very good, you can't pass on getting a teacher. Just my two cents. Happy holidays.
