do violinist bow with the bow hair flat down or they only use 3/4 of their bow hair?

Depends on what type of notes or music you're doing for an example if you were to do a spicatto you would tilt the bow to give you a faster movment and less scratched noise but there are books out there that teach you different bow techniques or bow holds, ask a teacher if you have one.
