Can anyone help me how to get rid of my rosin build up on my violin, fingerboard and bow stick. It`s kinda stuck right into the wood, so the duster won`t take it off. and i don`t dare use anything too strong to harm the wood.

It probably suonds bad, but my Dad used to clean the rosin off my violin using surgical/white spiriy. I little on a duster should work wonders, or alternatively you could get some specialist varnish cleaner from a local music shop. Hope this helps, are you new to the instrument?

that`s the shameful thing, I`ve been playing 11 yrs now, I never really considered the effect of rosin build up. it doesn`t affect the sound, it just looks ugly. thanks for the advice though, I`ll try and find some.

I understand your problem greatly. I`ve had the same problem too and when I had it removed I accidently broke the rosin and it shattered the finish on the violin. Recently I have received a new violin.

Errrmmmm........ My teacher recommended using old perfume/aftershave/something similar that contains alcohol (not THAT kind of alcohol!) with a duster ON THE STRINGS ONLY!!!!!!! on the body, just use ordinary furniture polish, but spray it onto the duster, not the violin!!!

Don`t use household supplies... it can damage the wood and the finish of your instrument. Take it to a professional, they should only charge a small service fee to take it off and it`s quick and painless that way.
Every time after i play, i use a soft cotton towel to clean my instrument... it`s a good way to be safe

Usually a towel or washcloth rubbed on the strings and other places with rosin should get rid of the buildup, although you might have to rub a bit it should come off.

I play the clarinet and i have a duster type thing that i run through the clarinet to get the spit out. i use this on my violin strings and it works great. It is only a couple of bucks. Also it is easy to use under the strings and very delicate as well. As far as the bow i am not to sure. Hpe it helps.
