So I have a violin that has had strings off for a while, a year or so. I got some strings to put on. My first question is without pressure from strings do I need to reposition the sound post? It is not bouncing around my violin as far as I can tell its perfectly in place.
My second question is, that I just got a set of 'Prelude' strings and they are steel cored, on the back of the package it says "Requires Fine Tuners" my G string does not have a fine tuner, will I be ok to simply not have a fine tuner on my G?
for a g string you should be fine since the g dosn't move to much once it's broken in. If you need to adjust it a little push the string down in the peg box to raise the tone push the string down on the side of your bridge nearer your tail pice to lower it that should take care of fine tuning a g
Your sound post shouldn't need adjusting, it is held in place by the fact that it is cut to fit perfectly were it is, and jammed in, so it should stay there. and the suggestion about about pressing the strings sounds good. i had an exchange student friend who would do that with her A,D, and G! but i cant live without my tuner. my G now stays pretty much in tune now though!
