I love what Apocalyptica does with electric violins.
I wondered if anyone has done electric violin covers of metal bands like machanie supremacy or similar, perhaps Eluveitie or even Muse etc...? Dragonforce has been done a few times and Graveworm use violin at the start of Fear of the Dark. As I understand you can do at least as much with a violin as with a guitar.
