Accidentally put paste peg on violin bow - please help!!    15:38 on Tuesday, February 9, 2010

Hello everyone,

For my birthday I recieved a lump of peg paste, which I thought was new rosin for my violin. So anyway, I turn up to a rehersal of an orchestra I'm a member of, and start rubbing the paste peg onto the bow, thinking it's rosin. When I try to play, the bow slides all over the strings and won't make a sound. So, I ask another violin player what's wrong, and thinking it's rosin, tells me to rub more onto the bow. I spend 20 minutes or so rubbing peg paste onto the bow, and he then asks me how's it going. He then looks at the carrying tin, and then tells me it's peg paste!!! I spend about 10 to 15 minutes wiping as much peg paste off the bow as possible, but the bow still slides over the strings with no real sound produced.

So, will I have to buy a new bow, or are there any 'heavy duty' methods of cleaning the bow to get rid of the aforementioned peg paste? I'd prefer the latter cause of action since I'm a student and don't have much spare cash.

Thanks,

Tom
