Hi there,
I was hoping that someone around here would know something more about me, regarding a violin I own...
Here`s the story then: I was in Paris about a month ago, and decided to visit Rue de Rome (a street that several luthiers and violin stores are located). So, I`ve seen an old violin I liked (strong and full sound as I prefer it) and purchased it after a couple of days thoughts...The problem is, I know nothing about the maker of that piece. The label has the sign "J.Didelot, Luthiere Lorraine" and nothing more. All I know, is that his workshop was located in France, Mirecourt area and stopped producing on 1925.
Anyone of you ever heard of those violins?Oh,and the price was 1000 euros...
Regards,
Mike.

I`ve seen one some time ago when I was in Mirecourt. But that was much cheaper than yrs, only 700+. But the sound was beautiful. Warm, bright, but modestly refined. What abt. yrs? I hardly see pp selling works by this luthier...so I guess he`s not famous then. The more leading ones are undoubtly :
Vuillaume,Stentor,Georges Cunault ,Andrea Castagneri,Claude Pirot, Paul Jombar, H.C. Silvestre, etc. Sorry, I dun know much about this luthier from Lorraine, Mirecourt. But do let me know the tone colour of yr violin.

Dear friends,
thank you for your replies. Here`s the address of the luthier that restored that violin:
SABATIER LUTHIER
45 rue de Rome
75008 PARIS

Maybe he`ll remember me, how many guys from Cyprus that don`t speak a word in french step in his shop, buy a violin and leave just like that???

Thanks again for your time,
Michalis

I spoke to the man at the shop. He remembers you well and said that your violin came from MAISON LABERTE in Mirecourt and was created in the early 20th century.
Many luthiers participated to the construction of this violin (as they were around 50 working at Maison Laberte) so it`s impossible to give their names...

Hope that helps
