I`ve Been playing violin for about 8 or 9 years but only recently have i truly had a problem with any form of stage fright or bad performance in front of people i`m not familiar or comfortable around. Its starting to get really bad though. When at home practicing i`m making magnificent runs through praeludium and allegro kreisler etc etc. Its soo perfect and nice at home. When i perform a piece not even half that level my technique reverts to that of when i had only been playing for 2 years. My bow bounces uncontrollably[i think my right hand shakes] My left hand is reluctant to move, as if afraid my intonation might suck. I am very discouraged. Someone please help me. My teacher gives me no input. He teaches at a university and teaches me on the side at different locations he finds convenient. He offers no help with my problem as he says "hes never had to deal with such problems" or he just says relax before you play or such" Am i just not cut out for Violin??? Suggestions? Input? Anything

I wish I had an answer for you but unfotunately I go through similar stages of nervvousness even when I watch other groups performing I get goosebumps and my stomach curls. My teacher isn`t much help either, I guess that they are so used to performing they forget what it is like to experience stage fright. my instructor tells me to play 120% in front of her so I can play 80% infront of an audience. The truth is if you the violin so much and it has never been this bad before while performing something else might be stressing you out. My advice and don`t think I`m crazy would be to get professional help and see about a couselor you might be similar to me and have an anxiety problem.Well ggood luck.

Actually I play the cello, cello violin whats the difference but anyway picture this, everyone around you totally sucks at playing the violin and you are the only one that can play the music good atleast try to picture it that way, so for the orchestra to sound good you have to play loud, good and really!!!! get into the music to make the rest of the orchestra sound good. Or picture this, you are in the middle of the field in a professional baseball game with thousands of people all around you, they want you to play the national anthem and so you ignore everyone play the music and have a good time doing it. Everyone gets nervous at playing on stage, I cant stand talking alone in front of crowds soo much that my heart is pounds so hard that it feels like it is fixing to come out of my cheast, my stomach hurts, and I feel like just leaving the room that second. But in the orchestra I was in and the one that you are in always remember that you are not alone there are people around you; your friends, parents and teachers to support you and to listen to you and/or the people around play good music. I`ve played the cello for about 9 years and I once had to play a solo in front of a lot of people. Keep on practicing and playing the violin. Just try to get you mind out of feeling nervous by thinking about happy thoughts. Have fun!!

Well, thats also my big problem before. When i play infront of many people, i find it difficult to make long bows and my hands are trembling unlike playing alone. example, playing meditation alone is much more easier than playing in a concert or playing fast beat are easier than slower pieces. the key to make u play well is that never engage to weight lifting, its a big no no. 2ndly, relax ur wrist and never grip too hard, 3rd play ur piece b4 u play at the concert, 4th assume that there is no one in the hall except u.

Yep, but why does people say that weight training is a big no no for playing an instrument, did some pro that did weight training become strong and a bad violin player or something? Becoming stronger doesnt mean that a person will be slower and not as flexible at playing the violin, viola, cello, and bass. Personally, I thing people who say not to workout are full of bull. People who workout wrong and get injured are stupid and are the ones who complain about feeling sore when playing an instrument. I workout and never feel sore or anything like that, and I can play just about any piece of music on the cello.
