hmm, if you're really serious about viola, then you should buy an expansive shoulder rest (around 40$?)
but if your school has an orchestra teacher, ask him or her about what kind you should get or even ask your private tutor(if you have private lessons).
Plus your orchestra teacher can get discount on shoulder rest and strings. So a 40$ shoulder rest can be like 20$.
Or go ask a [honest looking] sales person, like at a local music store and ask them what shoulder rest is good for you...
Right now i have a 15" Viola, been playing for 4-5 years, and i asked my orchestra teacher who can get me a discount on an electric tuner.
