I am just about to leave school I'm sixteen so i'm a late starter in musical instruments and have enquired about lessons on how to play the violin, however my teacher to be, said that I should learn the viola instead as it is easier tolearn and play. I love the music played by both and I'm very determind, and want to have whilst a learn, which should I choose Violin or Viola?

Well people say that violin is the hardest instrument to master, and I believe them so far! lol
They are both very similar as far as how you play them, one is just smaller than the other.
If I had a chance to pick which one I wanted to play first, I would still choose violin and then move on the viola once I had the violin basics down. Because if it turns out that the violin is more difficult to learn (I`m not a violist) than you would have already had experience so learning viola would be very easy.

When playing a string quartet or a symphony or concerto in an orchestra, the violin usually of course plays the main tune. The viola does that too but sometimes has a solo tune to improve the sound of the music. I would suggest a viola.

And there are actually not much difference between a violin and a viola. Just the tunes they play and size difference.

I play both violin and viola myself, and i do enjoy the viola best. i have long fingers, and the stretch doesn't really bother me. the violin really feels cramped for me, and i'd give up the melody anyday for the viola. the viola is also lower, so there's not as much sqeeking when you start. plus, you can always switch once you're advanced enough to not squeek as much. schools are always looking for violists too. The viola jokes are also great fun.
