ok I have been looking at instrument store s for christmas. I have seen all these different types of rosin,do they really make a difference? I have the crappy $3 rosin, would my sound be better if i got some special $10 rosin for violas?
If so what type should i get? (plz no more than $10)

Just make sure you get viola rosin and not cello rosin or violin rosin. Thicker strings require more grip from the bow.

i used violin rosin for a while and it sounded ok, but i do feel a difference in viola rosin, and i've learned that dark rosin works better for me than light rosin, i'm not even sure if there's a difference or if i'm just crazy or something but my mind seems to feel a difference, and just because it's more exspensive doesn't mean it's better. i usualy don't use the rosin in the rectangle holders, i perfer the round ones with cloth on the out side or they might be in a tin.
