i know my hand is supposed to be comfortably put on the end of the bow..but it seems like my pinky is pushing it too much to be natural...so i tried relaxing...it just flops out of place.

so i start playing a scale and my hand just sorta naturally slides down the bow so my index is a bit past the grip and my pinky sits around where the eye of the frog is.

is this wrong? is this right? it just feels so balanced. should i play with my cello at a flatter angle so the bow rests more on the strings? how much of a change will that bring when i am letting up for a string skip??

i don`t want to play wrong, and i don`t want to have any strain.

You should haveyour ring finger on the eye of the frog, your thumb bent and setting on the U shape part of the frog with the tip of your thumb slightly in the U, your pinky finger should be just behind the frog, your middle finger should be touching the end of the frog(you shouldn`t be able to see the other side of the U because your middle fingers covering it) and your index finger sould be about one inch to a half an inch from the frog depending on how big your hands are.

you see..my hands are huge...

on a piano i can reach about..an octave and a 3rd a fourth if i stretch it.

i think thats why the unbalance is there

1) awesome hands (I can only reach an octave + 1)
2) Try to have the top of your hand tilt toward the tip of the bow. It gives you a better grip and a better "drive", if you know what I mean.

thanks.

i think its because of my sweaty hands and large hands that they just slide down.

but when they do...it just feels sooo good. less stressful and my string changing is just brainless.
