I don’t have much knowledge of cello buying and was wondering if anyone could tell me about Knilling cellos. I have the opportunity to buy a Knilling Bucharest cello, list price is $1800-2000, for $750. Is this a good deal? Also is this cello even worth buying or should I look for a different cello. I can spend up to $2500 any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Knillings are good for beginners, although I can't remember if I've ever tried one. Sound like a good deal, though. Try it and see if you like it.

The most important thing to remember while buying cellos at any level is to try it and make sure that you like it. You have to like the way it feels, sounds, and looks. If you don't, playing will be unenjoyable and frustrating. You'll learn what you like, don't like, and what to look for as you become more experienced. Expensive doesn't always mean better, especially at beginning levels: a Stadivarius and a Knilling will both sound and feel the same to a beginner.

Another point is to try a variety of cellos before buying one, and try them for at least a week. Just pick the one you love. You'll probably know it the moment you try it.

Good luck!

tell you what. if ur just beginning, get a really, REALLy crap cello. this amps up ur technique by a hundredfold, and when u buy a greatb cello mabye two years from now, you'll be amazed at how good u play!

<Added>

by the way, i am not joking. my cello teacher is a small weedy bloke, but he can play louder than a symphony orchestra, and this is because he was stuck with a cheap school cello right up till conservatoreum.
