Hi Yanina...

It's interesting how it's relatively easy to find metal/goth-type bands using cello... I'm not a big fan of Apocalyptica and the like - not really into metal, much.

It sounds as though you might actually enjoy the music of my band, Cogwheel Dogs (http://www.cogwheeldogs.com). We've got a couple of free mp3s up on last.fm (http://www.last.fm/music/Cogwheel+Dogs). You might like 'Breathe', which is quite lyrical.

Other artists like Nina Nastasia (http://www.myspace.com/ninanastasia) use cello in an interesting and pleasant way, sometimes. Might be worth a look...

I'd be interested to hear anyone else's recommendations - good thread...

Tom

Thanks, Yanina. Regina Spektor is great, yes... And a fantastic live performer.

I don't have any Norah Jones albums, although I'm familiar with her. I'll do some searches for her songs featuring cello. Do you recommend any songs/albums in particular?

Vampire Weekend are the best. They have been described as using a combo of african instruments and western classical instruments in an alternative 'rock' setting. For the cello, the best is "M79" - really good strings in there!! xx
