Hi I'm now playing flute since 5 years but now I really want to learn how to play cello.
Since a couple hours I am looking around in that forum and it's really cool, by the way, but what I couldn't is compared tips for beginners.

- What does a nice cello for beginner need? or Should I buy better first a crappy cello?
- I can't really effort a cello teacher so, Which good cello books are available?
- When I am playing cello, I am playing in bass clef , right?

I really appreciate good answers

You should probably consider renting a cello at first. The cello uses mainly the bass clef, but in higher ranges it uses the tenor clef. In higher ranges still it uses the treble clef. You should take at least a year or so of lessons. Your teacher can recommend books.

If you are deciding not to have a teacher, I don't really recommend playing at all, then. I tried going that way, and I have seen how many bad habits can be picked up. Without even having a lesson, I picked up the cello and started plaing. I had my book right there, but the book doesn't teach you everything a teacher can. The book can't move your hand to place it in the right spot, and the book can't tell you when you played something wrong. Since you play flute, you are more familiar with the treble clef, so I would recommend trying to study the bass clef for a little bit.
