I would say Johnson make great bass's especially for beginers, more specifically I would reccomend a Johnson 4 string bass, thats about it, unless this person is rich, then I wouldnt listen to me.

well my first bass set was a Silvertone combo pack. it came with a Silvertone 4 string, a 10 watt bass amp, a guitar stand, tuner, a rather short chord, and a cheap strap all for like $150. It wasnt the best quality but it was good enough to learn the basics before deciding how much I really wanted to play.
