I`m a late starter 24 and have been taking Piano lessons now once a week for the last month...However I don`t feel like I`m progressing very fast. I have been basically taught how to read very basic music so far and preform "very Basic" songs often not taken up a page. My teacher hasn`t really focused on technique at all really and more or less just has me gradually playing harder pieces in "The Book". My question is how should I pace myself as a beginner and what should be my main focus as a starter. Considering I work 8 hours a day I can`t practice much more then a hour or 2 a day . Also any tips or helpful links would be great. Thanks for you time.

Ok I dont know much about the piano I play the cello but I can say pratice really makes perfect. There plenty of websites with information ...And if anything yuou have to get really good at reading music. I hope that helps.. I cant belive nobody else on this board replied. With all these self proclaimed " concert pianist" and " E composers " you figure they would have advice. Good Luck

what she said...practice makes perfect..thats the truth..but to understand this better..i would say...Accurate practice makes perfect..also..if you arent practicing piano..then research on other things relating to music...basic theory...eras of music...composers of music..its good to be all around in piano..It would suck if you could play the hardest pieces on the piano and not know who Haydn or Beethoven is. To tell you the truth...I only practice piano 2 hours a day..but on my spare time i research on many things music-wise..I may not be a concert pianist yet..but my all around knowledge on music as a whole is not that bad
